In 2000 I saw my Pitt professor Myron Taube staffing our local Squirrel Hill polling place at both the primary and general elections. He was one of my favorite (and best remembered) teachers – Intro to Fiction Writing, during my Most Productive College Semester – and it was an unexpected pleasure running into him.
Our polling place today was the new (-ish, 1996) Dormont Elementary School. Totally empty at 4:30 when we went, no problems at all. Like Casey, I think Allegheny County's old-school voting machines are cool. Flipping levers is very satisfying.
