Is it me or does every discussion on what folks like to listen to while hacking (like this or this, to cite two of a million examples) turn into a silly competition? Generally it starts with something general and bland “I like everything except country” or “I like classical” or “Silence.” The next wave is: “I like band X [which most people have heard of] and band Y [which most people haven’t]” Then it spins off into: “I listen to these bands X, Y and Z and I don’t care if you think they’re obscure” and “I listen to [huge laundry list of bands from every genre you can name] and I don’t care if you think my tastes are weird.” Didn’t we get over this after graduating from high school?
